Summary0000431: 1336x768 resolution does not work properly in fullscreen mode (+ issues with 1360x768 & 1366x768 as well)
DescriptionActually screen does not get resized over basic resolution 800x600, which means that huge part of interface is rendered beyond it. It forces us to kill the game manually.
This is also true for 1360x768.

When I was trying to decide which is the right 13xx resolution I should create, I did quite some searching on the net. I found many forums where people where complaining about issues with different 13xx resolutions. Apparently many video cards cannot handle the right (e.g.: some can only handle 1360x768, other only 1366x768). So I suspect it's not something that can be fixed, but rather documented.

We also should see which 13xx should be kept in the package. Did you try for example the 1366x768 I uploaded on the forum in that thread? See if it works better on your machine. In my case I had more bugs with it than with 1336x768, that's why I kept this one for now. Let me know how 1366x768 works for you. If that fails as well, I'll also create a 1360x768 version (some say it's supported by most graphic cards).

EDIT: Of course, if I'm wrong about the graphic card part and someone is aware of a way to make the game work in that (and any) resolution, please change the assignment for this. ;)

I think this was a mistake from my part to go for 1336x768, which, the more I search info on it on the net, the more I'm getting the feeling often it's rather just a misspelling of 1366 rather than an actual resolution used.

Now, to come back to the two resolutions with higher occurrence, 1360x & 1366x, I've attached to this report a package which adds them both (0.8 compatible). Default is 1360x (the only one which works well with my graphic card), but please try them both (especially those using 1366x768 resolution screens) and let me know how they work.

I'm hoping 1360x will work for everyone, because 1366x seems to not be supported by many video cards older than a couple of years, so we may keep getting bug reports on it.

As per Warmonger's description update, it seems 1360x768 also fails in full screen mode. As it's important that we make this resolution work for the displays which actually use this resolution (i.e.: 15.x-16" laptops), I'd say we keep 1366x768 for the time being (starting with the 0.81 release).

Meanwhile I encourage others to try both the 1360x & 1366x resolutions. So far we only know how they behave on two machines (mine and Warmonger's). But I would like to know:
- If also others with a 1366x768 resolution desktop are unable to use full screen when playing with 1360x768
- If also others with a NON-1366x768 resolution desktop have the issues I have when playing with 1366x768. In my case, not only does F4 fail, but even in windowed mode the creatures are totally out of place during battles (see screenshot: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/Zamolxis/VCMI%202009/2010-02-10_1366x768errors-BattleF4.jpg [^])

@Warmonger: Could you however post here the Console error you get? It seems it's different than what I have. In my case, for 1366 (and same for 1336), when I press F4 I just get "Error: SDL says that 1366x768 resolution is not available!". But I have no issues continuing the game. In your case however it seems the game goes to full screen, but then it fails (forcing you to kill the application). If you would post the error (or attach the log), perhaps Tow could figure out what's causing it. Maybe the code could be enhanced so that you get a more elegant error message (like I'm getting), instead of getting to the point that you need to kill the application.

I just meant (must have mentioned it a long time ago) that the screen is scaled to 800x600, but the game still renders entire 1360x768 interface, meaning the right menu is out of display and thus I can't continue playing.

Hmm... this is just a thought (as you use Win7). Could it be that you have a similar problem to what Steven Aus reported here: http://forum.vcmi.eu/viewtopic.php?p=4037#4037, [^] to which OnionKnight found the answer here: http://forum.vcmi.eu/viewtopic.php?p=4043#4043 [^] ?

@Tow: Please see the "1366x768 for 0.81.7z" attachment added to this post, containing the files for the 1366x768 resolution, replacing 1336x768 for the 0.81 release (the 3 files for the 1336x resolution can thus be deleted from the Data folder of the next package).

@Warmonger: If you have time, could you please check my note above and answer? Also, does the new 1366x768 work for you in battles in windowed mode as well?

@All: I will mark this report as resolved for now, however please advise/reopen if you are using a 1366x768 screen resolution and still encounter any problems. My main concern is the erroneous placement of creatures in windowed mode (see screenshot link in note 860 above). I take it so far as caused by my old video card which cannot handle the resolution well, but I am interested to know if any other devs/testers experience it.
