What do you mean by "default message"? Please post which type of quest / reward it is.
ALso, is objects category assigned to Tow by default? |

I think it is in all types. In properties to all kind of quests you have default/standrad messages: proposal, progress and completion, but you are able to customize this messages and write what you want. If you make it in mapedit VCMI still shows standard message.

An issue: what should I do if only PART of messages is set in editor? Randomize the others, or leave them blank? Is it even likely to happen, or all the messages are expected to be given? |

I think that mapmaker should worry about it not we
but i think it's good to change blank messages into some which would fit all quests of given type (so without too much details) |

The fix is not according to OH3 behavior, which was also a sensible one IMO: if the map maker wants to customize only one of the three messages at seer/quest guard, the game should accept that (and the other two remain the H3 default ones). VCMI (in 0.86 at least) seems to require that all three are edited, before it accepts them, otherwise it negates whatever custom messages the map maker has put there.
I've re-uploaded a new version of the map at 0000815 to help test this at the Quest Guard. Also, when re-testing, I found there is a bug with the default Progress Message (see new screenshot here). But if it's not an easy fix, let me know and I'll create another report for that.

All fixed in r2447 (separate custom message states; progress messages not applying "%s" replacements). However, I've encountered some other stuff (http://bugs.vcmi.eu/view.php?id=828 [^]).
