perhaps your localization of heroes3 is not supported?
install english data files.
this can be done by WoG updater and english language *.wog package
Zelp.txt comes from WoG data, I think. do you instaled WoG prior to running VCMI?
the wog data files are needed for VCMI to work, however WoG executable are not used.
the reason is that heroes organise things in lists, and more data result in longer list, so if last part is missing hence the errors (the program get EOF when it expects some data)
EDIT: you even missed some video data according to screenshot! most of heroes files with beginning of Z come from WoG. Install WoG before testing VCMI, and don't blame VCMI team for your faulty install! (It's been stated that VCMI requires WoG)

Indeed, it seems that you haven't installed WoG. Try installing it and extracting VCMI package into game folder once more. Does this fix your issue?
VCMI works fine with Win7, I use that system and haven't noticed any problems. |

There might be old, damaged interprocess memory file. It may lead to crashes or freezes when trying to start a game. I've recently discovered that issue and fixed it in r1394.
Try opening C:\Users\All Users\boost_interprocess folder and deleting its contents. |
