I am unable to reproduce this issue with the most recent source from the git development branch (debug build compiled with clang-3.6 on linux).
This is what I tried: I started new single-player scenarios, took my starting hero to various objects (crypt, windmill, sawmill), and pressed space right after to re-visit. The few times I tried it, it worked without an issue.
Could you maybe upload a savegame that is taken right before the crash, so that I could load it, press the space bar, and see what happens?
Also, after the crash, do you get any (error) messages, e.g. in the terminal you used to start vcmi?
